Welcome, once again, to Jenny's Fan Fiction Page.
My name is ... obviously ... Jenny. I am the creator of this here fanfic website. I put this site together several years ago (probably in about 1998 or 1999) simply for the joy of sharing my stories with others. Though I am not as prolific as other fan fiction writers out there, I do still love writing, despite how slow I tend to be. I believe that if something, especially a story, is not worth taking the time to get it just right then it just isn't worth it at all.
I am from southern Louisiana (USA), in the heart of Cajun Country. Down here we love our crawfish and our shrimp and our crabs extra spicy! Other than writing fanfic, my talents also extend to creating internet graphics and designs. Visit my MySpace page to find out more about my other interests.
As you can see, my fan fiction centers around three of my favorite television shows:
- The X-Files - I watched this show from the very beginning. What drew me to the show was seeing a movie called Fire in the Sky with D.B. Sweeney about alien abduction. Then, the previews for The X-Files started playing on tv and I remember saying "I've got to watch that show!" The rest is history, as they say. Oh, and Mulder Rules!.
- Xena Warrior Princess - I can't say that I began watching Xena from the beginning. My sister, Sam, was into the show long before I was. In fact, it was her who got me watching the show, my very first episode being, oddly enough, "The Quest". What I love about the watching Xena is Xena herself, and watching Lucy Lawless, who is essentially just a big goofball, play such a serious and stoic character. She makes it all so believable. As well as does Renee. She is such a great actress. When Gabrielle cries, I cry, too!
- Hercules The Legendary Journeys - I began watching this show because of watching Xena; probably after seeing the "Prometheus" episode. I can't recall the first episode of Hercules I ever saw, but I do know that I didn't start watching it because of Kevin Sorbo. Though not the star of the show, I think Michael Hurst (Iolaus) makes the show work! Without him, it would just be a show about a big guy going around doing good things and saying "you're welcome." It's a good thing to know that Michael Hurst is very much like the character he created on Hercules. I love you, Mikey for creating such a wonderful character!
A few FAQs you may have and the answers to them:
Fan Fiction
- What type of fan fiction do you write?
As I've stated on the fan fiction page I only write "gen" or general fan fiction. I have what I like to call a "rule" to fanfic writing and that is to stay true to the series. Of course, I know that "rule" doesn't apply to other fanfic writers. But, I've always believed that once the episode airs, whether you like it or not, that's history and you can't change it. Example: Iolaus dying in the HTLJ episode "Faith" or all three of the Lone Gunman dying on The X-Files. I hated both of those things! I was angry at the shows creators for even dreaming up such a stupid idea! But, it was show history. Something I couldn't change.
- Do you write crossovers?
Yes, I love crossovers. Sure, Mulder and Scully could never actually show up in the Xenaverse as they do in my Hunter story, but the idea of those kinds of characters playing off of each other, especially characters that I love, intrigues me. And you don't have to change the history of the series to do that.
- What kind of rating would you give your fan fiction?
Well, that would depend on the story. Same as before, I tend to stay true to the series, so usually the same rating as the show would apply unless otherwise stated. I find I do tend more toward the violent end. I've been told that my battle scenes can be particularly brutal. But, I can tell you that none of my stories will ever be labled "Explicit Material - Adults Only". My stories tend to be "angst"-y at times, or fall under the catagory of "hurt/comfort", but I do try to infuse comedy into even a dark story.
- What inspires your writing?
I'm sure it is different for all fanfic writers, but for me it starts with the show, and characters that you can truly latch onto. If you can understand a character, all their many quirks and their behavior, then you have your groundwork, you're first inspiration. But, mainly music is my inspiration! Music, both instrumental and vocal, can take me to places and help me build on a story by giving me ideas to work with. Example: For "The Hunter" I listen to Joe LoDuca's music. Others that have helped to inspire that story have been the soundtracks to "The Gladiator" and "300".
Graphics
- What are your usage stipulations?
Don't worry. There's no hefty charge. Except for the main site's design, all of my graphic creations are FREE for anyone to use! The only thing that I ask is that you give me the proper credit. On the page where you feature any of my graphics, place a link back to this website - www.jffp.bravehost.net. This will help to draw traffic back to JFFP and give me the opportunity to make graphics for others.
- What software do you use to create your graphics?
I mainly use Paint Shop Pro Photo X2. It may not be as sophisticated as Adobe Photoshop, but I really like this program. It's easy to use and with a few additional filters and plug-ins you can create some pretty interesting things. And I love the way it fixes photos. Just take a look at my Image Restoration page! I also use a program called Virtual Painter to add additional effects to some of my graphics.
- Can you create something especially for me?
Absolutely! I would love to! Just e-mail me using any of the e-mail links found on all pages of this site and tell me what you are looking for.
What's my favorite...?
- TV show?
Sorry Xena and Herc fans, but The X-Files is #1! Oh, and I love Lost and Monk. I've also just recently developed an affinity for Eli Stone
- Movie?
I can't name just one, so here's my top five: The Abyss, Aliens, The Lord of the Rings, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and J.F.K.
- Actor?
Oh, there's so many, but I would have to say.....Gary Oldman. I've never seen anyone who is capable of being so versatile. Just look at his resume. A close second would have to be Joaquin Phoenix.
- Actress?
Hands down - Sigourney Weaver. She played Ellen Ripley in the Alien movies. No one can convey emotion so well on their face as well as she can. I love to watch her act. The close second in this catagory would be Kate Winslet.
- Director?
It would have to be a toss up between James Cameron and M. Night Shyamalan. Of course, my favorite television direction is Michael Hurst.
- Author?
Stephen King. I love the way he writes so much detail in his stories. His characters are so rich because he doesn't just write about them, he delves into their lives as if they really existed. And I'm sure they do in his mind. My favorite of his novels is IT. The fictionalized town of Derry, Maine is so detailed not only in its description, but also in its history. You would swear the town suddenly jumped from the page and became real just because Stephen King said so.
